About Us

Despite an increase in public awareness campaigns and education in water safety, many of us continue to underestimate the dangers that are often associated with aquatic recreation. Even though Australia's overall drownings are on the decline, we cannot afford to become complacent.

Aqua Skills was developed in recognition that school children were being exposed to dangers in the water environments, without any training in hazard recognition, emergency management or self-rescue skills.

Inspired by children's holiday programme director, Don Seca, a group of paddling and outdoor education instructors, all trained in Swift Water Rescue, took on the challenge to write, develop and trial an inland water survival course. They teamed with Surf Lifesaving to deliver the ocean component.

The result is a fun, interactive and informative course in based in the environment of low grade river rapids.

The Adventurama Group assisted with the administration, delivery and refinement of the programme. In Victoria, the programme is currently licensed to ROAM Adventures; however, other licensees in Victoria, other states and overseas are encouraged.
